The adventures of John Storm and the Elizabeth Swann. John Storm is an ocean adventurer and conservationist. The Elizabeth Swann is a fast solar powered boat. During a race around the world, news of the sinking of a pirate whaling ship reaches John Storm and his mate Dan Hawk. They decide to abandon the race and try and save the whale.
In this story, Jill Bird is a news reader (anchor woman) for the BBC world service. She has degrees in media studies and economics. She is concerned about the effect plastic waste will have on the blue economy, where food shortages are already causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in less developed countries.
She has been following the exploits of John Storm since he discovered a Homo Erectus skull in Tanzania, noting the almost zany compassion of the amateur anthropologist, in his quest to catalogue all life on earth.
For these reasons, when the Kulo Luna story is broken, she is keen to allow time slots in her news broadcasts to feature.
She is the newsreader who dubs Kulo Luna, the $Billion Dollar Whale.
